Shopping to Stage Your Home

Shopping to Stage Your Home

Staging doesn’t have to cost as much as you think

When staging your home to sell it’s easy to get caught up and overwhelmed by all the tasks you might have to do to get ready but shopping should be fun if you know what to look for and where to go.  Here is my list of shops that I love to visit and pick up staging items on any budget.

1. Furniture

For homes that are partially furnished, for example bedrooms with beds but no side tables, etc., take note. Each space needs a purpose and needs to look the part! IKEA is a great place to pick up those small furniture items that you might need to complete a room.

2. Pillows, Throws & Bedding

HomeSense carries a great selection of pillows, throws and bedding for any budget. This is an easy way to neutralize a space and create a polished space.

3. Towels

Clean, crisp white towels are best for staging – pick these up at Costco for the best value. For those without a Costco membership, Hudson’s Bay and the Real Canadian Superstore are also great options.

4. Artwork

What is on your walls matters, artwork that you picked up on your trip to Mexico will have to be replaced with something that is not as personal – my favourite place to shop for art is Urban Barn. They have great pieces that can work throughout the house and if you are lucky you might be able to catch a sale!

5. Nick Knacks

These are those fun décor items that grace coffee tables and mantles in show homes that really complete a space. I am going to send you back to HomeSense to pick up your favourite coffee table items, they have a vast selection so remember not to get overwhelmed.

It is important to remember that when you are choosing items for staging your house to sell, neutral colours and styles are best. When shopping, always double check the stores return policy just in case the throw pillows you brought home are not right, that way you can easily swap out or return what doesn’t work in the space.

Remember if you get out shopping and feel overwhelmed, have Pinterest in your back pocket for some inspiration and to get you back on track.  Good luck and happy shopping!
